2006 Olympic Gold Medalists

Tatiana Totmianina & Maxim Marinin
Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin continued the tradition of dominating Russian pairs teams by winning the Gold Medal in the 2006 Olympic Games in Tornio, Italy.

Entering the Olympic season Totmianina and Marinin were the team to beat en route to the 2006 Winter Games in Turino, Italy.

Russian pair skaters have won gold at every Olympic Games since 1964. A scoring scandal resulted with the Canadian pairs team awarded a share of the gold medal at Salt Lake City in 2002.

Totmianina and Marinin won their first World Championship gold medal at Dortmund, Germany in March 2004. They successfully defended it last year. They have been virtually unbeatable since the 2003 season.

Totmianina and Marinin captured their second straight World Championship last year and recorded their highest point totals under the new ISU scoring system. They set standards in overall, short and free style programs.

It also marked a tremendous comeback from a horrifying fall Tatiana had at Skate America in the first competitiion of the 2004-2005 season. Tatiana was unconscious for a short time. They were forced to miss the Grand Prix season but came back to sweep the Russian Nationals, Europeans and Worlds.

In the 2004 Worlds competition, they earned their first 6.0 ever during their short program. "This is our first 6.0 ever! It’s wonderful. I always dreamed about getting a 6.0 before the new judging system was adopted,” Totmianina said. They earned their second 6.0 two days later in the free skate that clinched their World Championship.

Totmianina and Marinin also own two World silver medals. They finished fourth at the 2002 Winter Olympics.

They have won the European Championships for four consecutive years and the Russian Nationals three straight years.

They were fifth at the 2001 World Championships and won their first gold medal at the 2002 European Championships. Since the 2002 Winter Olympics Totmianina and Marinin have finished either first or second in every competition entered.

They're among the most entertaining and daring skaters while touring with Champions On Ice.
